GET TOGETHER YOUR IMPORTANT PAPERS, MAKE COPIES AND PUT ALL TOGETHER IN A WATERPROOF PLASTIC OR METAL FILE BOX, A WATERPROOF BAG, A LARGE MANILLA ENVELOPE, OR OTHER TYPE OF CONTAINER.
IF YOU EVACUATE, TAKE THE PAPERS WITH YOU. IF YOU STAY, PUT YOUR IMPORTANT PAPERS IN A SAFE PLACE (ESPECIALLY UP HIGH).

If you are on medications, a complete listing of ALL your meds
If you are employed, how to contact your employer in an emergency
MAKE A CONTACT CARD/SHEET AND INCLUDE ALL THE NAMES AND NUMBERS THAT YOU MAY NEED. EXAMPLES–
Family Members work, home, cell phone numbers and email addresses.
Other relatives and friends work, home, cell phone numbers and email
addresses.
Out of state contact information (where you stay if you evacuate)
Your doctor’s name, contact information and email address.
Your pharmacy name and contact information
Your home health agency’s contact information.
Your insurance agent’s contact information
Your pet’s veterinarian contact information
Your landlord’s contact information
Any other contact names for persons and entities that are important to
you.
Your attorney’s contact information
The names of your banks, credit cards (not necessarily your account numbers unless you can keep them safe)
KEEP THIS CONTACT SHEET WITH YOU AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE OR HAVE HANDY TO ACCESS IF YOU MUST EVACUATE OR TAKE SHELTER IN A HURRY.
THINGS TO CONSIDER IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY
If the emergency is due to a flood, remember the water can rise very fast, so have your important papers and other critical needs (medications, insulin, etc) ready where you can quickly access them if you have to hurry to get to the second floor, the attic, etc.
The same goes for a tornado strike. No early warnings so if you take shelter in your house or elsewhere, try to take your important You may want to consider having all your information burned to a CD or DVD (again protect your confidential information such as bank account numbers, etc).
You could copy all your information to a computer flash drive and be sure to take it with you.
Email your information to a trusted friend or family member in another area of the state or country.
If possible, try to keep a “stash of cash” hidden in your house that you can quickly access.
THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN SHELTERING IN YOUR HOME - Remember these basics:
Keep an ax in your attic.
Throughout Hurricane season keep a large fresh supply of water on your second floor or in your attic.
Keep non-perishable food on second floor and in your attic. Remember the can opener.
Keep white paint and brush in your attic so you can spell S.O.S. on your roof.
Keep a first aide kit on your second floor or in your attic.
A radio with plenty of fresh batteries
A flashlight with plenty of fresh batteries
Extra diapers & baby supplies(if you have a baby)
Try to remember to take your medications and other necessary items with you to second floor or the attic br>
SHELTERING AWAY FROM HOME – Remember these basics (even if the shelter can provide these items, it is a good idea to have with you just in case).
Your medications
2 or 3 Gallons of water per person or a least a few 16oz bottles
Non-perishable food items
Important papers
A few extra clothes, toiletries
If you have a baby, bring diapers, baby formula, baby hygiene products (rash cream, wet wipes, etc), pacifier
